I see that Sean Doran resigned yesterday as boss of the English National Opera. He was not a well known figure in the opera business when he was appointed. I met him for the first time in Monte Carlo on Saturday evening! But this is altogether bad PR for opera in London, as well as terrible for the company - there was a revolving door at the Royal Opera House for some four years until Tony Hall appeared and sorted things out. In the end the Board is responsible for these messes - so they might want to think about that.
