Frank is is Chicago to direct the Faust at the Lyric Opera which opens on Monday next. We have only known each other for a mere 30 years - and I was delighted to hear from him today that maybe the New York City Opera is planning a revival of a production that we commissioned from him when I was General Director of Glyndebourne. When we were done with it I did a deal with that other legend, Beverley Sills who was running the City Opera in those days. So things do have a habit of coming around again.......Frank did three productions in my time there, all in the 1980s - each designed by Maurice Sendak, another legend of course. They were good times.
I will be at the Faust dress rehearsal on Friday. Can't wait!
