One occasionally has a day with a bunch of largely administrative activities and concerns, combined with the odd "artistic" one. So that was one of those days in the office.
Last week we had a total burn out of our phone system, the very same one that we depend on for selling tickets apart of course from communicating with the outside world. But thank goodness for the technology that has taken over from human face to voice or voice to voice interaction - email and the internet. Otherwise we would have been out of business by now. And thank you also for the mobile phone, known as the "handy" in German speaking countries, and the "cellphone" here in North America. In the Vatican the Pope has a "telefonino" I believe. For us it is increasingly the iPhone of course......that is another story!Public Radio International - no, wrong, not in the telecoms world. It is Primary Rate Interface - what? yes......believe me. Click the link to find out more. And let me know if you are any the wiser. You can always figure it out from this diagram at the left no doubt!
So you see there is a whole other world out there. Very exciting! And we look forward to a sleek new system that will work better than the one that blew up last week. If there are any readers who would like to give us the cash to pay for it press the contribute to COT button towards the top of the left column of this page.
And as it happens one of the main "artistic" activities of the day was dealing with matters relating to Tod Machover's new opera Death and the Powers, a product of the many geniuses at MIT. So much the same high tech problem here.
Such are the joys of daily life.
