I am back in the office with a skeleton group of colleagues getting some important things done. The others are taking a well earned break from a stressful period and getting their batteries recharged for the push of the next three months before our season begins.
I had the treat of lunch with one of our enthusiastic young board members in the excellent Naha Restaurant on Clark and Illinois Streets. The snow began around noon so my walk over the river was a chilly one - I took refuge from the flurries in the shadow of Mies van der Rohe's IBM building at 330 N Wabash which has now been overshadowed by the new Trump Tower which has risen from the old Sun-Times building. You gotta hand it to Trump - he chooses fabulous locations!
My board member, Suzanne Wagner, chairs our strategic planning committee. So apart from her priceless attributes of commitment and enthusiasm for the company's work, she is the keystone of the process we are currently embarked on. And a fine job she is making of it. And in addition she is a wonderful lunch companion.
I then had a skirmish with the devils at the Apple Store - my iPhone has given up part of its function. And AT&T and Apple are competing for the greatest villain prize. Apparently it is hoped by the manufacturers that modern technology fails just weeks after the 12 month warranty has expired. However the man next to me at the so called Genius bar was on his fourth within twelve months. Mine had the temerity to last 14 months so I have to pay an expensive penalty. Something wrong with this picture? Grrrrrrrh!!
And then on to another Board member's place for a lovely holiday celebration. And home in good time quite early to do the blog........and deal with the jet lag.
