Its that light sticky stuff, nothing dramatic but it just accumulates. Its been going on for twelve hours with apparently more to come later. Lovely!
I was at the Lyric Opera's Tosca Dress rehearsal this afternoon. Talk about nostalgia! This production first saw light of day at Covent garden 46 years ago this month - in January 1964. And I was there to see Callas and Gobbi in that legendary series of performances. We had some good healthy Italian singing from Marco Berti and Lucio Gallo this afternoon, and an excellent big house Tosca from Violeta Urmana. And all this held together in exemplary fashion by the expert and experienced baton of Stephen Lord.
I then returned to the office for a couple of hours before making my way to Rhapsody for supper and Boulez's thrilling performance with the CSO of Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle. There are three more opportunities to attend this program - not to be missed! Michelle DeYoung and Falk Struckmann can not be bettered. Mind blowing!
Everyone will be thrilled to see Principal flute Mathieu Dufour back with the CSO this week. It seems that he is here to stay - according to Andrew Patner's piece in the Sun-Times on Tuesday. Terrific news indeed! And this evening he played the Flute concerto of Marc-André Dalbavie so brilliantly.
So it has been a late night after a long day. And I have an early start tomorrow with our Strategy committee on parade at 9 am. So I indulged in the rare luxury of a cab home on this snowy evening. I was lucky to find one.
