The Quadrangle, University of Chicago, Noon February 22 2010
Today was the virtually all day retirement party at the University of Chicago for the great and good Philip Gossett, colleague, mentor, and friend to so many. I am back from there now at 11pm. We started out at noon. I will write at greater length tomorrow. After this long day and yesterday's shenanigans I'm done!

we sat across from you at the wonderful dinner denoument and were sad to see you and your wife rush home to bed before we got a chance to to speak more about terrific regional opera that i think is only getting better in the us. as i write this andreas mitisek is working hard to create what he intends to be the finest (or at least splashiest) work our funky company has done--nixon in china. anyway good to see you (if only briefly ) on such a breathtaking day. mike schlutz
