So the change in pace I referred to in yesterday's post? The news is that I am in charge of our child for the next week as Nell has to be in London on family business. Now this is very good for my education. But the trick is - I have a manual which tells me in perfect immaculate detail all I need to know to navigate the world of a six year old - the dos and the don'ts are top of the list.
So far so good. We were up at 6.30 to say good bye to mama, as we call her - (I am papa). Off she went to ORD to get the flight to London.
First challenge was to get B's lunch ready but its easy peasy - no brainer -
Excerpt from manual:
Lunch
• Pasta – in freezer. Bags of spaghetti and/or penne. If new bag, heat in
microwave, green stripe up, for 3 minutes. Warm pink and purple thermos pot.
Put in about half the packet and some tomato sauce. Put lid on quick to avoid it
getting too cold.
• Apple crusher – in box in larder – on right hand side
• Cucumber – in fridge – although you might need to buy another one. Half a
dozen slices in a little plastic pot
• Cookies – 2 Oreos – in white cookie jar on counter by bread bin – in little plastic
pot
• Raisins – a little box in the larder
• Fork – one it doesn’t matter if it gets lost so NOT one of the steel sets with smiley
faces. Might put in a spoon too
• Napkin – if you need another one there are some in the door of the larder
• Water – use cold water from fridge – put in pink topped thermos flask
Put it all in purple lunch box and zip up
So all is going just fine. I managed to get her to school by 8.10 and still be at my meeting at Roosevelt University at 8.30. So that was the first triumph of the day.
We had a meeting of the executive committee of the board of the CCPA. Everything there is being organized splendidly by Henry Fogel the new Dean, and Jodi Kurtze the indefatigable development officer. I think that between us we are going to get things done. The thing here is that Henry is now on the COT board, so all being well we will be working in productive harmony. The future is bright, the plans are shimmering!
I was then in the office by 10.15 for our weekly production meeting, up dates on progress with all things technical. We are blessed in having Claude Binder as our Production Manager - huge experience and perfect temperament to deal with the volatile and emotional environment of that world. And is it ever tricky in these times of extreme austerity? But he is doing brilliantly......
