Most days I have a look at an extremely well written blog from Waukesha, Wisconsin of all places. Don't get me wrong, Waukesha is a fine place and has an extremely good Symphony Orchestra whose music director is COT's Alexander Platt. Furthermore It is host city to the Wisconsin District Metropolitan Opera auditions. I did jury duty there a few years back and had a great weekend.
And it is also home to Mike Johnston, an outstanding photography writer, whose interests spread far and wide and whose ability to cut to the chase is infallible in matters photographic - and clearly in other things too.
I think that it would be amusing for my readers to spend the five minutes necessary to read his post of this morning. This is not entirely irrelevant to our work in an opera company. What do you all think about this?
And if you do not already know about his website you will find nuggets of good stuff there pretty often.

Isn't the state of things saddening? I go to a small liberal arts college known for its academic excellence, and the other day a classmate who I was talking to didn't know what the word "incongruous" meant. I had to pull out a dictionary to prove to her that I didn't just make that word up to seem intelligent.
Mr. Johnston's piece is outstanding, and after reading it I'm comforted that I'm not the only person under age 85 who uses the word "recalcitrant".
