Spider Rock, Canyon de Chelly 12 pm August 17 2010
We made our way from Grants, New Mexico to Cameron, Arizona today by a somewhat circuitous route to include some off the beaten track places, notably the Canyon de Chelly. This is a mini foretaste of the Grand Canyon and extremely impressive and beautiful it is. We crossed the Navajo reservation rather than take the main road to Flagstaff. It is beautiful country, astonishing landscapes and ever changing colors of rock formations as the light changes during the day.
Our first stop after leaving Grants was the Hubble Trading Post, a simple place with a great store! We then went on to spend a couple of hours at the Canyon de Chelly before taking the road back to Ganado, and then the road to Tuba City which brought us through stunning country including three great Mesas of the Hopis and the charming fertile little town of Moenkopi.
And so on to the Cameron Trading Post, a Navajo property which is extremely well run with great rooms and a fabulous store! We are off early in the morning to see the mighty Grand Canyon - one of the 7 wonders of the natural world.....
