Riccardo Muti and the CSO - Chicago September 23 2010
Sorry about that! It has been a long tiresome day aggravated by a little jet lag. I should be too old to suffer from that, and normally do not. So its all been a bit of a drag.....
Anyway, last night's concert was a splendid and auspicious start to this period in the life of the CSO. Deborah Rutter, President of the CSO, is a major heroine for having patiently brought her Music Director, Riccardo Muti, to Chicago. And the crowd at the Berlioz Fest yesterday evening was a full house and an appreciative and noisily enthusiastic one. Rightly so - the CSO played with refinement and immaculate style, alternating with their customary brilliance in the brass and wind departments. A wonderful evening of music making, and music by one of the greatest masters of the orchestra Hector Berlioz.
And we also had Gerard Dépardieu as Hector himself. Stunning!
Just thought I'd tell you what a pleasure this was. Its good to live in Chicago if you love music! And if you love opera you have to subscribe to COT.
