Who should surprise me by walking into my office this morning? It was my dear friend and colleague Speranza Scappucci whom I haven't seen for ages, and who is with Lyric for 6 weeks or so working on the musical preparation of Macbeth.
Speranza came to us from Juilliard in 1998 to the European Union Opera in Baden-Baden to work on Béatrice et Bénédict. She subsequently did a few seasons with us at COT before being snapped up for a long term assignment at the Vienna State Opera, as well as coaching over the last 8 years or so at the Salzburg Festival, Glyndebourne, and practically anywhere else you can think of with the highest standards, including the Metropolitan Opera of course. So - good for Lyric to have her here!
So it will be great to have her in town for a few weeks - she is the best in every respect.
