The Chicago Parks District has a whole range of activities around the year. And they can be so dependent on weather for success. This weekend the Illinois Restaurants Association has an event called Chicago Gourmet, very upscale by the look af ot, very expensive, and sold out for today. Above you see the soggy preparations taking place at lunchtime yesterday as I will walking up the Nichols bridge to the Art Institute at lunchtime. They have taken over the whole audience grass seating area of the Pritzker Pavilion and will no doubt turn it into a quagmire! The sun is shining as I write and lets hope that it stays that way...........either way I will give it a miss!
Riccardo Muti was in great form yesterday afternoon with the CSO and a blistering performance of Tchaikovsky 5. The CSO really excels at this kind of thing. They sounded fresh and enthused after their triumphant tour of Europe earlier in the month.
And yesterday evening at the Goodman there was a totally riveting play, John Logan's Red, superbly acted - in for a big success I warrant! Serious absorbing stuff 100 minutes with no intermission. A standing ovation for the two actors - just the two of them - Edward Gero and Patrick Andrews - wonderful!
