Yes the Shostakovitch will get the lion's share of attention this week. But Teseo starts by the end of the week. So Handel will get his turn........
We continued with music rehearsals today and there will be a run through tomorrow afternoon all musical components presumably in place.
One of the challenges of casting this opera has been a desire, even a requirement, to find singers who can dance as well as sing. Ah, the new generation will turn their hands and feet and voices to anything. So we have the delight of an amazingly versatile group. What a treat we are in for with this piece.
Amongst them are Matt Boehler who was our Leporello in 2008 and Coyle in Owen Wingrave in 2010; and Ashleigh Semkiw who was a member of our young artists program in 2010. Both are outstanding stage creatures and are thrilled to be using their diverse talents in this super operetta. They were rehearsing the movement/dance components of their Vava/Drebednev scene this afternoon with Eric Sean Fogel. Hard physical work........

Our Board meeting scheduled for today has been postponed owing to lack of quorum and other complications. It is rescheduled for April 4. But I am delighted that my dear old friend and colleague Errol Girdlestone has arrived so I will be knocking up something in the kitchen for him. I thought he was arriving tomorrow.......nice surprise!
