London from its highest point - Parliament Hill Fields, Hampstead Heath 6pm August 4 2012
I am staying in Belsize Park for a few days and took the opportunity this evening to make the short trip to Hampstead Heath. Hampstead and Highgate are home to so many musicians, writers and artists. As well of course as being the last resting place of Karl Marx.
Hampstead is a vast and ancient park and one of the most loved of London's many open spaces. On a weekend day like this it was being enjoyed as always by the huge variety of London's inhabitants. What a city this is....! And those fortunate enough to live in this part of town have some handsoem houses to choose from, as you can see below - the beautiful Grove Terrace on Highgate Road.
Tomorrow afternoon I will be at the National Theatre for Timon of Athens. I saw this rare play in Chicago with Ian McDiamid just a few months ago. Tomorrow it is Simon Russell Beale in the title role. It is one of the hits of the NT season.
And on Monday and Tuesday I have two evenings at Glyndebourne. This is a fine flourish to end this trip to England.
