I got back to London on Tuesday evening - and yesterday was somehow a mad rush, culminating in a wonderful adn most touching "repatriation" party hosted by friends and family, and attended by a good many of my oldest and dearest friends, many of whom I have seen only occasionally over the last 20 years. I have really been living out of the UK since I went to Canada in January 1989, after 27 years at Glyndebourne. I had a couple of years in London 1997-99 but apart from that short time I have been an expat for almost a quarter of a century...... But no longer!
I have another chore laden day in London today and am thinking of my colleagues in Chicago as they reach the final dress rehearsal stage of the Flute which opens on Saturday. I will be in flight all day tomorrow and so much look forward to being in Chicago. It is only two weeks since I left - it seems an age! But it will be brief. I will be back in London on Sunday night.

I really do marvel at how well you put up with the maddening intricacies and indignities of constant travel, especially by air. It must be exhausting! While I suppose I envy the excitement of constantly changing location and experiencing great music all over the world, I do not envy what you must go through to actually have those experiences. I bet you're looking forward to a calming down of your schedule!
