Last night's splendid production of The Pilgrim's Progress was a great event - ENO validated the work thanks to a superb cast, led by Roland Wood's Pilgrim, the superb ENO chorus who sang and performed generally as though their lives depended on it, wonderful playing from the orchestra led by Martyn Brabbins, and a sensational production by Yoshi Oïda and his remarkable design team.
I bumped into Michael Kennedy at the end and he was emphatic that RVW and Ursula would have been thrilled. And no one alive knew them better than Michael. I have not read the reviews yet but I would wager that it was well received by the perceptive British critics!!
The day started brightly and then greyed over. I crossed Waterloo Bridge at 2pm. London looks great in any light!
