COT's former Production Manager, Brad Vernatter cam to lunch in Parson's Green yesterday. He was in London for a couple of days winding down from the Wexford Festival where he has served as Production Manager for the last few years. It was a perfectly fitting combination with his work for COT - but alas the new scheduling of COT does not work any longer so he is staying with Wexford.
I was sorry not to have been able to get there this year. I should be able to make it in 2013. They had a huge success with a lovely programme this year, including what was by all accounts a very fine production of Frederick Delius' A Village Rome and Juliet.
David Agler, Wexford's Artistic Director, is doing a remarkable job in the extremely difficult financial circumstances that confront everyone in Ireland at the moment. But he is a determined fellow and an eloquent advocate for the work that they do. Long may they flourish!
We have a sriously unpleasant day in London today - cold, dark, and wet and unrelenting. But I will be gretly cheered up by going to the opening of Carmen at the Coliseum this evening. It looks promising.......
