So this evening there is the opening of The Pilgrim's Progress by Ralph Vaughan Williams. RVW has really been having something of a revival in his popularity. And ENO have put together a first class cast with Yoshi Oïda directing and Martyn Brabbins in the pit. So one way or another this is going to be an "event"!
And I am delighted that our good friends and supporters from Chicago, Jim and Laura McCormick, will be present as well. Jim is an inveterate collector of operas, so on his trips to these islands can be relied upon to be seen at Wexford and Buxton. And of course other places where he may encounter new titles. He is just back from Wexford so I am looking forward to quizzing him about that.
Tomorrow I will be marking US Election day by spending the evening at Le nozze di Figaro by Glyndebourne on Tour - down the road from me at the New Wimbledon Theatre. The cast will be graced by two gifted young singers well known to my north American colleagues and friends. These are Layla Claire and Joélle Harvey as Countess and Susanna. This is an evening to look forward to. And on Wednesday GOT will be doing Rusalka.
But all attention is still bound to be focussed on the US election tomorrow night. I have never wavered in my desire for and belief in the re-election of Barack Obama. The world will be a much better and safer place when he stays on for another four years - and the opposite were he to fail......but he won't! I will get back after the performanbce and be riveted to the news all night!
