It will be a nostalgic day today - this afternoon to the Barbican to see the double bill of Where the Wild Things Are and Higglety Pigglety Pop! And this evening I will be at a reunion of survivors from the Wexford Festival of 1972.
The Sendak/Knussen double bill was first seen at Glyndebourne in 1985. This afternoon's performance is a new production from last summer's Aldeburgh Festival. So this is not a revival of the Corsaro production....I am excited to see and hear these pieces again and I reckon the 2012 multi media approach will be pretty thrilling.
1972 was the year we did Katya Kabanova, Il pirata, and Oberon. And the party this evening is hosted by Adam Pollock, the Oberon designer. I have no idea who will be there - but certainly a number of people that I have not seen for 40 years.......scary! I will report!
