The National Theatre's production of Pinero's The Magistrate is a joyous evening. It opens next Wednesday and I saw a preview last night. Directed by Timothy Sheader, with stunning designs from Katrina Lindsay, there is a virtuoso central performance from John Lithgow. And he is surrounded by an ensemble, in true NT tradition, displaying the depth of the British acting profession of every age group including Joshua McGuire, Nancy Carroll, Nicholas Blane, Jonathan Coy, and so many others, not least a glorious vignette from Christopher Logan.
But you have to see it for John Lithgow.......Happy Christmas!
