Yesterday evening I was at the concert in London's Purcell Room to mark the 10th anniversary of the BASCA awards. Amongst the distinguished composers honoured over the last ten years have been Harrison Birtwistle and John Taverner. And both were reperesented by prize winning pieces yesterday. I do not tend to mention family matters on this blog - but I was proud that my daughter in law, Ruth Byrchmore, who was the winner in the liturgical section in 2005, had her winning piece performed. This was A Birthday, written to mark the birth of her first child James, whi is the first child of my first born - Patrick. So it was a nice family evening!
And this evening I will be at the Wigmore Hall for a recital by the Samling Scholars. Its all go in London!
