The Piazza, Covent Garden 10:15 am Thursday January 17 2013
I had to go to the Royal Opera House quite early this morning. And what a relief it was to be in a really quiet Covent Garden - a place which is normally unbearably bustling for much of the day. But at 10 am as I emerged into the Piazza it was all blissfully quiet as you can see above. And what a gorgeous bright frigid morning it was. I guess all the revellers from last night were still tucked up in bed missing the best of the day!
I think that things will be much noisier this evening. And I will brave the crowds to see for the first time The Minotaur which was something of a sensation when it was first seen in April 2008. Full marks to the Royal Opera for bringing it back. And they will be rewarded by full houses it seems. No doubt there will be returns for those of you who have missed out - it is a wonderful demonstration (alas that is sometimes needed) that opera continues to be a thrilling living art form.
