All Saints, Fulham from Putney Bridge 1:30 pm Saturday January 26 2013
At last we had a little sun this morning although it had begun to cloud over by the time I got down to Putney. But the keen rowing fraternity (and sorority) were out in large numbers. This is an important rowing center and is the starting point for the Oxford v Cambridge annual boat race which remains a national sporting event, one of the few university contests that grabs the imagination of a wider audience in the UK. How unlike the USA where college sport seems to be more important than college academic life!
Two old COT hands are coming to dinner this evening - Brad Vernatter and Michael Gieleta. We will no doubt be thinking of and toasting our Chicago friends and colleagues.
Other than that all quiet. I am off to Leeds on Tuesday for the dress rehearsal of Opera North's La clemenza di Tito, and on Friday will make my way to Toronto for Tristan, and Tito again - this time COT's 2009 Christopher Alden production which the Canadian Opera Company has taken over. It will be interesting to see how it wears, and how it compares with John Fulljames's new production in Leeds. So an interesting week ahead.
