The Royal Academy of Arts, Burlington House 3 pm February 11 2013
I was at the Royal Academy this afternoon where they have the superb Manet exhibition. And they have ot to a great extent as a result of what we in the opera world would call a co-production. This was a co-curating project - and was with their equal partners the Toledo Museum of Art. That is Toledo as in Ohio, not Spain. And while the Royal Academy has not been shy to give full credit to Toledo for the exhibition which opened first in Toledo with great acclaim, little credit has been given by others. I know how Toledo feels - Chicago Opera Theater is rarely given the credit it merits. But we have broad shoulders......
Anyway its a great show, and if you missed it in Toledo you can see it in London until 14 April at which point a remarkable bringing together of Manet's work will be dispersed, never to be seen together again in our lifetime. You can go to the Kimbell in Fort Worth to see some, or to the Museum of Western Art in Tokyo. Or to Toledo itself where some of the pictures are in the permanent collection. But that is complicated - this is off the beaten track to say the least!
Other good things that come from Toledo, Ohio include Brad Vernatter, COT's former Production Manager and now in the same role at the Wexford Festival. Just thought you would like to know!
