Castleton Festival Theatre 4pm July 15 2013
We are experiencing a heatwave on a par with that in London, and magnificent cloudy skys which somehow magically never cover the sun. For much of the company it has been a day off today. But for me my work has just started and I will be on parade every day this week. I hope the singers manage to turn up from now on - today we had a 50% drop out rate. But some of my colleagues fared even less well. The young people are all exhausted and I guess they can be forgiven just this once. And I think that there was a party last evening.......
I had a fruitful couple of hours with three baritones, I think that it will be mezzos tomorrow, and maybe back to the rest of the baritones on Wednesday. Meanwhile the preparations are proceeding for the Andrew Lloyd Webber Requiem for performance on Saturday evening. Just a little adjustment is needed after the diet of Verdi and Puccini.
This evening the inmates in my house are having a grand dinner - twelve of us in all. They include Stanford Olsen, Neil Shicoff and Dawn Kotoski, Karen Brunssen, Daniela Costa, Ben Malensek and our chef and wonderful orchestra leader Paçalin Pavaci. And we have four mystery guests to make up the party.
The sun continues to shine - it is now 7:05 pm.
