In his own way, Gérard Mortier was as much a theatre man as August Everding.
What I admired in both was their immense knowledge and true love of theatre.

yes, and of course August was a much more gregarious "clubbable" guy. And a huge inspiration and so loveable. Gerard was more rigorous and impatient and demanding - but for those who understood and valued that he was no less loved....but for others less understood. However he was pure gold.
