This is sad news indeed. Sir George was greatly admired and respected by so many of us. He and lLady Christie made me feel welcome as part of the Glyndebourne family when I worked there in the mid 1980s. Condolences to the family.

Such sad news. When I first came to Glyndebourne as a member of the chorus in 1973 I remember Sir George so well as a kind and handsome man....not yet 40! I also received my very first fan letter from him after my Desdemona at ENO.
He will be terribly missed by many.
