Oh dear - there seems to have been a technical glitch and my posting was repeated and repeated and repeated. I deleted all but one and ended up with nothing! So I will have to remember what I wrote......
It was all about being back in harness. All rather tedious stuff. But I had an enjoyable meeting with the young Artistic Director of the Washington DC based American Opera Theater, Tim Nelson. They are doing a fine job and well worthy of the attention of opera lovers in that exciting city and an excellent diversion from all the other stuff in DC!
Otherwise it was good to be back with my friends and colleagues at COT. Time was spent on Marketing, Development and even opera. There was a good deal to catch up on course after a week out of the office.
And the work day ended rather late with a Finance Committee meeting where a variety of opinions and strategies as always were aired. The end of our fiscal year is always a difficult time. And I hear today that we are far from being alone in a troubled environment as many companies struggle to balance their year end books.
I hope to spice the blog up a bit with some illustrations in the next day or so. I think long solid blocks of text are indigestible.
PS - a kind reader has captured the lost posting somehow and you can read the original in the comments section below!
Well, if it can be of any help, yesterday's post is still readable via your blog's feed, so I can copy and paste it here:
«Back in harness
I was really happy to back with my colleagues (and friends) in the office today. It was a full day with lots of stuff with finance and fund raising, with marketing and with...... - yes some opera stuff. So here I was with a lovely varied day. First a visit to our local coffee shop for a strong dose of caffeine. Then to one of our major sponsors of the last few years with a proposal for 2008.
Life returned to one with some social dimension with a visit from the charming Tim Nelson, the young artistic director of the American Opera Theater in Washington DC. Altogether to be encouraged.
Then we had some routine meetings followed by a meeting of our Finance Committee this early evening. It is remarkable to see the diversity of perspective amongst board members. The conservative and cautious are the chalk to the cheese of the passionate and enthusiastic "can do" characters - but the latter are no less businesslike. It is amusing to observe these dynamics at work.
I have deprived you of illustrations these last few days. I will try to correct this tomorrow. Today I have been catching up.»

ORANJESTAD, Aruba - Felix rapidly strengthened into a dangerous Category 5 hurricane and churned through the Caribbean Sea on a path toward Central America, where forecasters said it could make landfall as “potentially catastrophic” storm.
Felix was packing winds of up to 165 mph as it headed west, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. It was projected to skirt Honduras’ coastline on Tuesday before slamming into Belize on Wednesday.
“As it stands, we’re still thinking that it will be a potentially catastrophic system in the early portions of this week, Tuesday evening, possibly affecting Honduras and then toward the coast of Belize,” said Dave Roberts, a hurricane specialist at the center in Miami.
