It was indeed a not-to-be-missed experience. The end of the first act is an overwhelming mix of music and image of the kind found only in opera.

I'm surprised to read your suggestion that seats went unfilled. We were there on Friday night, and the Harris looked pretty well sold.

Thanks, all at COT, for giving us creative, imaginative, satisfying productions.

Shocking as it may sound, not everyone thinks John Adams is the quality composer that apparently some do. In fact, some of us think that he's pretty mediocre, has a sorely limited compositional palette and that almost everything he's written since ca. "Nixon in China" is either a retread or not any good to begin with. As my friend Jim said as we were walking out of the Los Angeles Phil's performance of the ghastly "El Nino": "How does that man keep getting commissions? Who is he sleeping with"? I won't print what he said after the world premiere of the mind-boggingly bad "Dr. Atomic", this is a family website.
