Death and the Powers is over, after just four noisily applauded performances which went from strength to strength, reaching a level yesterday afternoon that brought the incredibly receptive audience to its feet. It is so gratifying to witness such enthusiasm in an audience for a brand new work. But the piece touches so many spots so accurately, provokes questions which people are thinking about days later. It has been an altogether remarkable journey for us over the five years or more that we have been shepherding this project along. Tod Machover has been an inspiration for everyone - a remarkable man, and a composer who can touch heart and mind deeply through his music.
I am always sad when a run comes to an end, never more so than on this occasion. There are no further performances scheduled anywhere. But I can not believe that this is the end. I will certainly be doing whatever I can to encourage further performances. It needs to be seen everywhere that music and theater are alive and well.
Some of us had a farewell drink and supper at DiSotto Enoteca in the basement of the Seneca Hotel yesterday evening. Above you have Emily Albrink (Evvy) David Kravitz (The United Nations) and Allegra Libonati (Assistant Director). On her left was Tod - out of the picture..........
So now we move to 100% focus on Medee. It opens on April 23 so things are hotting up.
