It has been a wasted day with this compuer stuff. Enough said - its over!
I was at the American Chamber Opera's Don Giovanni this evening. This was a noble effort by what is essentially a co-operative of capapble young people, and they are not untalented. The chief star was the Zerlina, Miss Chicago 2012. And she was no doubt a worthy winner. But she can sing and perform too. This is Marisa Buchheit - not just a pretty face though she has certainly that as well. And there was an enjoyable Donna Anna - Corey Fretz, from De Paul University. To be watched. Overall there was a commendable standard. The production was in the Chicago Temple - and there was no set and the singers probably brought their own costumes. The orchestra was a string quartet and piano.
This evening was an alternate cast. I might have wished to hear David Govertsen in the title role. But instead we had the burnished voice of Neil Edwards - he will be in the COT ensemble later this month.
There was a small but enthusiastic turn out. We must wish them well. Things are tough for young opera singers. This company provides performing opportunities.
I am still recovering from my journey over six time zones. I will feel better tomorrow!!
