Yesterday evening I visited a part of London which, the best of my knowledge I have never seen before - the inelegantly named Crouch End.
The purpose was to have dinner with my old friend Errol Girdlestone. He is adept at sniffing out good places of refreshment so I arrived at 7pm at the really excellent Bistro Aix, sandwiched as you can see above between two of the ubiquitous eateries specialising the "cuisine" of the sub-continent which grace London's perimeter neighbourhoods.
And very good it was too. I enjoyed snails and an excellent cassoulet. Delicious.
Errol is in town again for these three days for Wexford auditions, staying with his son and family in Muswell Hill - thus the dining choice. He is back in London straight from the two concerts that the Hilliard did in Paris and Munich, following their birthday concert in Shoreditch Church last Wednesday. It was as always great to see him. I am looking forward to taking a long weekend break in February down in Villeneuve-Loubet, near Nice, where he and Susie have lived for the last 20 years.
This evening there is the Christmas party of one of London's leading artists management firms. This should be a jolly occasion!
