I quick trip to Sussex today was a holiday bonus. My younger son and family (four of my grandchildren are theirs!) - live between Lewes and Eastbourne so my little daughter and I took a trip for a terrific lunch at The Plough in Upper Dicker. This is just 250 yards from my son's house so is a convenient watering hole for them.
Their friendly next door neighbour is the eminent veteran film director Barrie Gavin, and by chance he dropped in whilst I was there. That was such a treat. It was always so great to see him in Chicago over the years - his work with Pierre Boulez and Gerard McBurney has been central to his recent activity. His career as a director, in particular making music related documentaries, has been long and distinguished.
And I also took the opportunity to pop over to Ringmer to see George and Mary Christie - so it was a full day as usual!
Tomorrow is another fun family day - the pantomime at the Hackney Empire. It will be Puss in Boots.........I will back get to serious stuff next week.
