The Hive company in conversation
The mischievously named Grimeborn, "An opera festival like no other", has been in residence at the Arcola Theatre, in distant Dalston, since July 23 and remains there until September 8. I was there yesterday evening for a "workshop" of a work in progress, The Hive, with music by Harvey Brough of Harvey and the Wallbangers.
It was a short evening with only the first half on display, an excellent appetite-whetter for the complete piece for whenever it is done. It is well worth your while going along for a most engaging hour - there is just one further opportunity this evening at 9 pm.
After a mere four days preparation the most excellently chosen cast of four, Turiya Haudenhuyse, Jessica Walker, Christopher Diffey and Keel Watson (seen above in conversation with librettist Carole Hayman aka Crystal Tipps and Bill Bankes-Jones), did a remarkably persuasive job with this scary piece which may or may not be "the future of opera" which is Tête à Tête's tag line. But it is a very jolly way to spend a stimulating hour if you are of an inquiring nature. It is only £8 - and if you look very old you get an automatic 25% discount no questions asked!
Go for it!
Lovely blog, Brian, thanks so much, these things are so helpful. Tonight, though, is at 8:00pm not nine.
